Malt Cross Trust - Arts

"Artists in a way are religious anyhow. They have to be, if by religion one means believing that life has some significance, and some meaning, which is what I think it has. An artist couldn’t work without that"
- Henry Moore

We developed the café bar to be an arts venue for three main reasons. Firstly it helps to create a great atmosphere by taking the focus away from mere consumption, secondly because we believe art encourages reflection and discussion and can be an aid to developing relationships and lastly because it often stimulates a more spiritual view of life by expressing something of God’s creative character.

At a practical level we also know how hard it is for new artists and acts to get their first exhibitions and gigs so we wanted to offer Nottingham’s creative arts community a quality and competitively priced option right in the heart of the city.

The Malt Cross is a popular choice for both local and national touring musical acts. As well as this we aim to be a platform for art in all its forms. Our events and nights often incorporate visual art, film, performance, spoken word as well as music. Our partners in these nights include local and national promoters.

The Malt Cross Gallery

Our gallery space has hosted a number of successful exhibitions by a wide range of local and national visual artists and we are one of the most popular host venues for one-off arts events in the city. In the past we have hosted the City Council’s ‘City Pulse Festival’, ‘You Are Here’ and ‘Now’ festivals. We are also a preferred venue for graduate and student exhibitions.
