"If it wasn't for the Malt Cross I would still be in a cycle of excessive drinking and drug abuse"
- Fiona (name changed to protect anonymity)

Nottingham city centre has around 350 licensed premises and up to 100,000 people visit the city centre on busy nights such as Friday or Saturday. Their demand for entertainment coupled with relaxed legislation has led to the rapid development of the night time economy and associated binge drinking, drug abuse and crime.

Though the city centre churches have many effective outreach initiatives and programmes they recognized that there is little that reaches directly into this night time economy. This is why a number of city churches founded and manage the Malt Cross which aims to connect with those who work or use the city at night – people our churches don’t often have contact with.

The Malt Cross has a passion to express God’s love into this night time economy in Nottingham City centre. Our work includes:

A unique Café bar and Arts venue which offers an alternative approach - we focus on listening to, and developing relationships with customers rather than maximising sales and consumption.

Outreach to those in the city at night - our workers support those working and using the night time economy, from helping to resolve conflict to listening to the burdened and lonely. This includes co-ordination of the Street Pastors project.

MX community which provides a safe space for exploring and developing Christian faith particularly for those outside of and on the edge of formal church structures.

Please visit the pages on this site to explore in more depth what we do, and take a look at the Stories page for an idea of some of the effect our work is having.
