Some frequently asked questions.
1) How old is the building?
It’s really old.
2) No seriously, how old?
It was built in 1877 by some dude called William Taylor.
3) What was it?
It was originally built as a music hall and is now one of the best restored venues of it’s kind in the UK.
4) Wasn’t the bar over there? [Question accompanied with pointing]
Yes. It was moved to the other side in the 1997 restoration.
5) What’s downstairs?
The basement in presently SAPNAS Restaurant but in the original plans it was supposed to be an ice rink! Those kooky Victorians.
6) Is the very impressive arched glass roof an original feature?
Yes, it is and apparently it is an architectural wonder and no one really knows how the architect built it at the time.
7) Is it going to fall down then?
Not on my shift.
8) Who has played on the stage?
The stage has been graced with the likes of Jonny Vegas, The Scratch Perverts and apparently Jurrasic 5. The Elephant Man also had it’s first UK preview on the back wall.
9) Can I have a beer please?
Only if you pay for it this time.
